“Change is Good”
Verse: “Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory…” (Isaiah 43:7)
The glory of God is what emanates from Him. As light is to the bulb and as heat is to a fire, so glory is what radiates from the presence of God. Wherever God “is” His glory is displayed (Psalm 19:1).
Now here’s the point: God wants to bring glory to Himself and display Himself through you (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). In fact, He wants to do it even in the most mundane and insignificant things that you do (1 Corinthians 10:31). Now, if you realize that God’s glory isn’t as well displayed by your life as it should be, it’s easy to understand why He wants to change you. He wants to get you to the place where no matter what happens to you or what you go through, you trust Him and follow Him and are committed wholly to His goodness. And so, He’s coming after you, and He’s trying to change you so that others see Christ in you. This process is called sanctification.
Christ left us an example to follow (1 Peter 2:21). The essence of Christianity is to be like Jesus Christ. If your faith isn’t changing you into the image of God, it hasn’t saved you. The people who really have the new birth – the people who really have that conversion experience – are changing.
