Title: The Lord’s Prayer for every believer

John 17:21 KJV

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Reflecting on this chapter, we found many deep truths, hopeful words, and comforting phrases in the Lord’s Prayer spoken by Jesus. We are privileged to glimpse into Jesus’s prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, just before he was handed over to the Roman soldiers. In Christ’s prayer, especially in verse 21, we see a perfect example of unity. When Jesus says, “Father, art in me, and I in thee,” it signifies a deep harmony; the Father and the Son are completely unified. This demonstrates Jesus’s prayer for each believer to achieve this same level of unity.

One common reason for organizational failure is disunity, which spreads like a cancer destroying everything it affects. Maintaining unity consistently is very challenging. With just two people in an organisation, disunity is likely to develop. I have a family of five; if you ask each of us for our favourite Bible verse, you’ll hear five different passages from Scripture.

How can we achieve unity? It’s essential to recognize our place within Christ’s body, with Him as the head and us as the members. Discord among us can cause dysfunction or worse. The only way to attain unity is outlined in Paul’s epistle: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:” – Philippians 2:5 KJV

Every member should possess the mind of Christ; without it, disunity can arise. When Jesus remains central to our church activities, unity is attainable. As we deepen our relationship with Him as the Chief One in our ministries, we also strengthen our bonds with one another. This leads to a harmonious and beautiful fellowship. However, when individuals shift away from this focus, we tend to grow apart, and conflict tends to emerge.

Brethren, the Lord Jesus Christ is praying for us to nurture unity of heart, hope, and harmony in Christ our Lord.
