Today’s devotion emphasized the importance of our availability in ministry. God isn’t searching for talented or tall individuals; instead, He seeks those who are willing and ready to serve the Master’s purpose.

The miracle of feeding the five thousand appears in all four Gospels. A key message from this story is, “Little is much when God is in it!” Today, I want to focus on a few verses for our devotional. In this story, Jesus posed a question to His disciples that would reveal their faith. He asked Philip to test his belief. This wasn’t because Jesus didn’t know where to find food, but because He already knew His plan. God allows hardships to test our faith and demonstrate His power.

Philip replied to the question, saying, “200 penny worth of bread, what is it for five thousand?” It is interesting to consider Philip’s response to Jesus Christ. The number 200 holds significant meaning in the Bible. It is often associated with insufficiency. For example, in Joshua 7:21, 2 Samuel 14:26, 2 Samuel 18:9, and Ezra 2:65, the number 200 highlights the inadequacy of external resources in worshiping God, such as Ezra’s 200 singing men and women, which were not enough to establish peace with God.

Philip focuses on the problem instead of the Problem Solver. He observed man’s hopeless state and, after assessing the needs and resources, understood that a feeding ministry alone is insufficient. Likewise, in our Christian lives, we tend to respond with calculation. We are quick to draw conclusions about situations and often underestimate God’s power. By doubting His strength to help us, we limit His divine intervention. We must trust Him to accomplish the impossible.

Remember, God often accomplishes extraordinary feats through small and seemingly insignificant means. For instance, He used a baby in a basket in Egypt, raising him to lead the Israelites through the wilderness for 40 years. Similarly, David’s hands wielded a sling and a stone to defeat Israel’s enemies. A young maid also played a crucial role by bringing Namaan’s attention to Elijah. One important lesson for us all is the willingness of the boy to use his little resources to feed a large crowd. This shows that when someone is brought to the Lord Jesus Christ, the possibilities are endless.

Friend, what do we have right now? No matter how limited our resources are, God used the boy’s example to demonstrate the importance of being available. God chose the boy because he was willing to serve the Lord. When we make ourselves available, we express our care for others through a servant’s attitude. An available person is approachable and makes an effort to show that he is ready to help. Let us commit to making ourselves available.
