Today’s devotion focuses on our belief. When we are truly convinced by someone’s words, we trust that what they say or do will come to pass. This is akin to trusting the words of the Lord Jesus Christ when He assured us not to be troubled; we must believe in Him.

𝑳𝒆𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒅: 𝒚𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑮𝒐𝒅, 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒆.

The Lord Jesus Christ comforts His disciples with His words. This passage shows that His time on earth is nearing its end, and He will soon depart from His disciples. Parting is always hard, whether it’s for joyful or sorrowful reasons. Jesus had spent daily time with His disciples, and now He was informing them that He was leaving to prepare a place for them. This news caused them great sorrow.

I remember my first time going abroad. Although my goal was to provide my family with a better life, I often feel overwhelmed with emotion to the point of tears. I understood that being separated from my family was difficult, but I believed it was necessary because it was the best way to support our needs. Many overseas workers share this belief, thinking that the salary from our employer will be sufficient to meet our needs, providing us with security, stability, and satisfaction.

In our text, the word ‘believe’ comes from the Greek πιστεύετε (𝖕𝖎𝖘𝖙𝖊𝖚ó), which means “to think to be true, to be persuaded of, to have confidence in.’ Essentially, it suggests “to exercise faith in someone or something.”

When the Lord Jesus Christ said, “𝒚𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑮𝒐𝒅,” He means that you are fully persuaded, without doubt, and confident in Him, placing your faith in Him. What must we believe about God? It includes His attributes: that God is Sovereign, Self-existent, Self-sufficient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient, and a Wise God, among others. Additionally, His Word affirms that He created the heavens and the earth.

Therefore, if they are to believe in God in that way, the Lord Jesus Christ says, ‘You must also believe in me.’ Why? Because Jesus Christ is the visible expression of the invisible God; when we see Jesus, we truly come to know the Father. No matter how long you’ve been a Christian, facing difficulties can easily wipe away all that knowledge of God within us, like a flood that overflows its banks and covers everything.

This devotion resonates deeply with me more than with anyone else. Recently, I have noticed that God has been guiding me through the Bible. It’s important to recognize this, as God desires me to find comfort in His Word. Some of you may be going through tough times today; during such moments, we must trust and rely on the Lord Jesus Christ. Just like a child’s faith in their parents’ promises—children never doubt their parents’ intentions because they trust that their promises will be fulfilled—I believe we should have similar childlike faith in God’s promises.

Similarly, when the Lord Jesus Christ said, “𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔: 𝒊𝒇 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒔𝒐, 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖. 𝑰 𝒈𝒐 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖. 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒇 𝑰 𝒈𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒚𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇; 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑰 𝒂𝒎, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒃𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐.” This is a promise extended to everyone who puts their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. In Christ, we discover true security, sufficiency, and satisfaction because Jesus Christ is God, who cannot lie about His promises. I am confident that Christ will supply our needs.

What’s troubling you today, friend, brother, and sister in the Lord? Let’s revisit the essentials. We must believe that Christ died for you, was buried, and on the third day, He rose again. If He accomplished this for your salvation, then it’s easier to trust that He can also meet our needs, such as peace and comfort that the world cannot offer.

No matter what problems arise, when we entrust them to God, the Creator of the universe, He always provides a solution for all our difficulties, as the songwriter states:

God is too wise to be mistaken

God is too good to be unkind

So when you don’t understand

When don’t see His plan

When you can’t trace His hand

Trust His Heart

Trust His Heart
